Conference Day Overview

Students will arrive to the A-State campus on the day of the Small Business Leadership Challenge and take over the 3rd floor of our Student Union.

The morning will have multiple hands-on workshops for students while finalists give their presentation to our judges. Everything is completely run by our college students and staff, so teachers can take a break!

The afternoon will be split with half of the students having lunch in our Acansa Dining Hall – our buffet-style cafeteria at a group rate of $8 per student – and half of the students participating in a larger interactive workshop.

Registration Instructions

For this conference, there will be two separate registration links.

Teacher Registration – This will be for each teacher to submit their information as well as total student headcounts. We will need one for each school (so if you are bringing students from multiple schools, we will need multiple forms).

Competing Team Registration – This form will register the competing students as well as submit their materials. All materials will need to be accessible/public through whatever platform you are using (YouTube or Vimeo). There will also be space to register up to 5 students in a team. A form will need to be completed for each team.

Competition Rules

This competition is for students participating in The Stock Market Game. Teams should consist of students who worked individually or together in SMG, and all information will come from their progress/portfolio/what they learned through the game.

The only aspect of this competition is a 6 to 10 minute video describing your portfolio, your choices, and your future projections for the companies you chose.

Video Guidelines

Your video length needs to be between 6 and 10 minutes long and include the following:

  • Introduce your team!
    • What is your team name?
    • Who are your team members?
    • How do you split up the work?
  • Your Choices
    • What companies did you invest in? (make sure to describe what the companies do)
    • Why did you invest in each company? (make sure to have a good reason! “It looked cool” is not a good reason)
    • How much of your $100,000 did you invest in each company?
  • Future Projections
    • Where do you think the stock price of each company will be in 6 months?
    • Why do you think that?
  • Reflection
    • What companies do you consider a good investment on your part?
    • What companies do you consider a bad investment?
    • Overall, how do you think you did in the Stock Market Game?
